Entry #898010
February 16, 2012On entering the room he felt a temporary respite from worldly restrictions. Muted light revealed a free-standing bookshelf, well worn as were its denizens. The wooden strip flooring also hosted an unmade bed upon which a woman sat, shooting up. Marginally perturbed, he hesitated. He vaguely recognized her, perhaps she was a mixture of two or more characters he knew. She recognized him instantly and called out referring to a reputation she knew him by, something like, Mr. Valiant or Don Chivalrous. Whatever it was she said he gained confidence to approach her, hoping to have an exchange of affections. No longer bothered that she had just emptied a syringe into her arm, he drew her up and together began an expansive and sensual dance. She was beautiful, gifted with finesse and moved with appealing agility. They whirled, joining then separating, limbering libidinously. In a rhythm of fluid motion she peeled off her clothes and whatever she didn’t remove he did, until she was left wearing black stockings and oozing femininity. Their dancing led them to an embrace on the bed and a fiery passion was fuelled. He was ready to enter her in an ethereal coupling. Thinking she was on another plane he proceeded cautiously but just then lost the flow and she eluded the final smooth synchronicity of copulation which he was so keen to consummate.
THE END.

Imagination Club Weekend
October 25, 2011The first Brussels Imagination Club weekend, held on the 22nd/23rd of October was an event which included six different activities. Antonia Harrison expertly hosted a novel ice-breaker which set the weekend off to a great start, this was followed by a discussion on a potential project which Carolyn has in mind. After a delicious dinner I facilitated a workshop on story creation before Irene Ploeg got us all salsa dancing. On Sunday, after breakfast Tom Meyers guided us through some simple yet effective healthcare techniques for body and mind and the weekend ended with a walk. Everyone’s eager participation made it an enjoyable weekend.
As part of the story creation workshop, stories of love and pain were told as well fantastic and bizarre episodes including a dog urinating gold and a group of people disappearing into a grain of sand. Amazing stuff indeed! I do hope to hear more about these stories and if they have been explored in more depth. Andy Whittle delighted us with a limerick and he has kindly agreed to share the fruits of his creative talents;
An Evening of Storytelling 8th of July
July 11, 2011An Evening of Storytelling, where true stories are told live was held in the Bar Del Sol in Leuven on Friday the 8th of July. The theme of the evening was “The Visitor”. We had a few surprise guests who on the spur of the moment came forward to tell their story.
Telling and listening to true stories allows a special magic to manifest and Friday’s get together was no exception. Stories foster the understanding of self, of others, and of life. Storytelling encourages connecting and understanding which is so important for creating a healthy community. We can tap into the wisdom and power of story to develop on a personal level and help us to live and work together in healthy communities. But mostly it is fun.
Manie Conradie bravely began the evening with a story about how he got his family involved in gate-crashing a fancy party. He kept us enthralled and wondering at which point they would be discovered as imposters and be thrown out! Wim Woittiez enthusiastically followed on, firstly telling us about a 14day hike he had just completed in Corsica before going on to tell his story about some bats who paid him a visit and overstayed their welcome. Fernand Rappe played a soulful song on his guitar before Bradley, our youngest guest (10years) delighted us with his spontaneity and theatrical performance. After Bradley’s story we took a 20min. break to replenish our glasses and chat informally.
In the second half Antonia Harrison, Bradley’s Mom took the floor and gave an insight of what to expect from the customs agents when visiting the United States. Lars Sudmann then gave us mini story about Liesbeth, a digital visitor and how she listens intently and remains focused in the moment in spite of distractions. Bradley certainly got bitten by the storytelling bug and decided he had second impromptu story for us before Fernand sang and played a passionate musical interlude. Dirk then had a beautiful and moving story about a visit to Thailand and told us about a few of the wonderful experiences he had there. Another surprise storyteller who turned up was Fred Versonnen. He had an absolutely wonderful story about the King of Thieves and told it superbly. Fred is clearly an experienced storyteller and gave us a demonstration of just how engaging a well told story can be. He had us hanging on every word and brought his story to a close with a brilliant ending. Martin gave the penultimate story of an adventurous journey that included a turbulent relationship which ended suddenly and comically. To close, Bradley came up a third time, his story telling skill and confidence improving remarkably in just one evening.
It is fascinating to hear how diverse and varied the stories are that emerge around a common theme.
After the evening’s entertainment the night was still young so we lingered in the Bar Del Sol chatting and eating Tiramisu that Natalia had kindly brought along. We had all spent an enjoyable and uplifting Evening of Storytelling having time after the event to connect socially is particularly agreeable.
The next Evening of Storytelling will be held on the 19th of August in Bar Del Sol in Leuven.
